Analog Exercise
We are going to work with spatialization as a compositional element without using a computer.
Form into small groups of 3 or 4 for this exercise. Each group will make two short, 30 second to 1 minute compositions on paper.
A crude example for 3 voices:
1: . . . . . . . . 2: < .. .. -- . . . - 3: ---- > . < - > . |

For each of the two parts, self-organize upon a compositional paradigm: the group chooses a single composer or all members work collaboratively. Designate one group member as conductor when performing each piece. All members act as voices.
Notation
Each voice has it's own separate single-line staff and a single pitch. Timing is left up to the group.

| - | a long sound |
| > | a diminishing sound |
| < | a growing sound |
1 Static
On paper, create a composition using a simple graphical score consisting of two parts:
- graphical notation
- static voice position in 2D space
You have 10 minutes to create the piece, afterwhich the piece will be performed.
2 Moving
Now create a new piece, however the voices will now move over the duration. Expanding the score's voice position representation by drawing movement paths for the voices to follow. If you wish, try combining both the graphical notation and positional drawings.
You have 10 minutes to create the piece, afterwhich the piece will be performed. During the performance, the voices shall move along their respective, relative paths.
